Cathy is the person who knows what is going on in the building, unless she forgets to put it in her calendar. Knowing who is doing what when and needs what space and trying to keep it all operating on a day to day basis as smoothly as possible is a constant challenge. Everyday there are issues that show up because this is a large multi use building that operates for the needs of various groups and businesses. It is always interesting, but her favorite time is still when ithe building is empty and she can lose herself in some sort of artwork or creative endeavor.
Cathy is an artist and has been the artist in residence here since Cornerstone moved here. She has been in charge of getting walls covered in paint and floors tiled over the years. About 7 years ago, she became the artist and creative director of our social enterprise, Oneida Square Public Art and Design. In doing that work, it became obvious that there was a need for shelter for people experiencing homelessness as people would show up during the day and evening and nighttime when leaving the building.
When Pastor Mike asked her to consider becoming the managing director of Oneida Square Public Art and Design she said yes, having no idea of what she was really saying yes to.
It has been an adventure, a highly challenging endeavor to learn all that comes with the many things that take place. It hasn't been easy but still there have been a lot of things accomplished in the doing and it has changed her in so many ways.
During the last year she also became a supply preacher for the UCC and has worked in partnership with Pastor Mike in the ministries here at Cornerstone Plymouth Bethesda. She loves the neighborhood, the people, the building and as a mother of grown children, she is in a stage of life where this is full of open possibilities.
